I was born in New York, but my parents are from India. I have gone back to India many times to visit my relatives. Whenever I visit India, I learn more and more about the culture of India. I noticed some similarities between the culture of New York and the culture of India, but I also noticed many differences to.
One of the similarities I noticed between both cultures, is how much of a rush people are in. As all of you know about how busy New Yorkers are and so New Yorkers always walk faster than everyone else. In the process of being so fast, New Yorkers usually dont bother to say excuse me or apologize if the bump into someone else. The same thing is true in India, well atleast the city my parents are from. If you are not careful in India, someone might push you out of their way if your slowing them down. My cousin-in-law learned that the hard way. While trying to get off the train, another commuter pushed him out of their way and caused my cousin-in-law to hurt his back.
There are many differences though. One of the differences are how important families are in India. Although families are important here, the word family has a different meaning there. In India is extremely rare for the eldest son of the family not to live with his parents after his marriage. Usually here after we get married or earlier we move out on our own and our parents live on their own during the golden years. Another different is how people always come by unannounced to their family and friends' houses. In my grandparents' house, it is extremely common for 3 or 4 people to come over unannounced everyday. In New York, it is considered rude if you go over someone's house unannounced. In India it is a very common practice.
Although I was born and raised in New York, I love my Indian culture and try to incorporate both the culture of New York and India in my personality.

This Is Me
This Is Me
So... I am a sophmore at Baruch College. My major is business management.
I wanna get involved in coaching sports. My dream job would be to coach a
team in the NBA or NFL. But if that doesn't happen, I would love to be involved
in the business side of sports. Within a year or two I plan on coaching a basketball
team for kids around the age of ten. Hopefully my dream of becoming a coach comes true.
