I was quite surprised by the management process at McDonald’s. I was extremely surprised by how well their management process went at one chain while at the other chain the experience was far from satisfactory. At the first McDonald’s I visited the management process worked extremely well, from when the cashier asked me what my order was to me receiving my hamburger and fries. But at the second location I visited the management process worked horribly. I went to two McDonald’s because at the first McDonald’s the cashier told me the receipt wouldn’t be able to print well done fries, so I went to another McDonald’s to make sure this was the case.
So let’s briefly go over the steps at both restaurants. Lets begin with my first experience. My first step was the cashier asking me what I would like. I began to give my order of one hamburger with four pickles and fries well done with no salt. I repeated my order one more time to make sure the cashier heard correctly what I wanted. After I repeated my order I thought the cashier looked at me funny, but she continued placing my order and then telling me my total. While I was talking the money out of my wallet, the cashier told a co-worker to make a new batch fries well done without salt. She repeated this twice to her co-worker. The “chef’s” in the back read my order off the monitor and prepared my hamburger with exactly four pickles. The most surprising thing about this process was that at no point did the cashier need her manager’s help in placing the order. The final step to this process was me receiving my order, which felt like I only had to wait a couple of minutes for the order, which is pretty good time. I have gone to other fast food restaurants and had to wait almost ten minutes at times for my food. So only waiting two minutes was rather surprising.
At the second restaurant, the cashier that took my order didn’t understand what I wanted. When I told her that I wanted the receipt to say hamburger with four extra pickles and well done fries without salt, she told me the receipt wouldn’t be able to print like that. When I got my receipt all it said was hamburger with extra pickles and small fries, but my first receipt said hamburger with extra pickles and small fries without salt. The cashier didn’t seem well trained because she constantly needed the help of other coworkers and the manager.
The complaint I have is making sure all the cashiers were better trained because at the second McDonald’s visited the cashier wasn’t well trained at all. The communication at McDonald’s went very well from the cashier to person preparing fries to the “chefs.” The cashier called over the person preparing fries to tell her that I wanted well done unsalted fries and the cashier didn’t have to tell the chef’s to make my hamburger with four pickles because the “chefs” where able to read it off the monitor.
I had mix reviews of the effectiveness and the efficiency of the customer service because at the first McDonald’s I visited the experience was superb, but at the second one wasn’t so great. If I was brought in as a consult to McDonald’s I would work on better training the workers, so the management process would work more efficiently.
